Aimee & Billy’s wedding at All Saints Church, Woodchurch, was a booking I took over a year before and one that I had very much looked forward to photographing. I’d first met Aimee and Billy when Billy’s mum booked a family portrait shoot with me a few years before. Since then they had had a portrait shoot with me at my studio every year along with their two gorgeous boys, Harry and Jake. I tend to photograph a lot of church weddings in Kent and had been to Woodchurch before to photograph the boys christening last year.
On the day of the wedding I was to start with Aimee and her bridesmaids getting ready which is always a nice way to begin the day, it gives me a chance to capture some of the fun as well as introduce myself to a few of the key wedding party before the main event. On this occasion the lady doing hair was Michelle Vassallo from Bubbles and Bows who I have met before and who always does an amazing job and applying the make up was Charmaine Harding whose work was beautiful. The living room served as the hair and make up room and if the girls weren’t being made up they were chilling and watching proceedings along with the chocolate lab who periodically put in an appearance.
Not wanting to neglect the guys after a while I made my way over to the pub opposite the church to capture a little of what was going on. Needless to say harry and Jake couldn’t have looked any cuter in their suits and Billy and his groomsmen looked very smart.
Among the guests arriving were quite a few faces I recognised from Sarah & Vince’s wedding at The Little Silver Hotel the previous year as well as Harry and Jakes christening which meant fewer strange faces than familiar ones at this wedding.
Arriving in an old vintage car with her dad, Aimee looked beautiful and when Billy laid eyes on her he couldn’t hold back a few tears. weddings are always events which expose the relationships between people and what they mean to each other and being wedding photographer gives me the chance to capture those emotions. Of course it’s wonderful to see the love between the couple but also the bonds with other friends and family, and none appeared stronger than between Billy and his grandad who clearly think the world of each other.
With the ceremony over there was no vintage car waiting for Billy, instead a tractor and trailer decorated and driven by Billy’s dad, what better way to travel to a Rare Breeds Centre!
With Billy’s dad working as the general manager at the farm we had access to the garden area fro couple photos which provided a pretty location with plenty of colour and which we managed to complete before the heavens opened. I found it quite amusing at this point that Billy admitted to me that he hates having his photo taken as I must have photographed him and his family on atlas 5 different occasions! Hopefully though, despite several portrait sessions, a christening and now a wedding , it won’t be the last time I see them all.
